The Cat Chained to a Single Stroke
My commentary
In bed, after a knee surgery and much pain, I see in the window a cat watching me. The next day and the next day and the next, at about the same time, there was the cat. As I tried to turn around to see him better, I moaned (screaming, sometimes) in pain and he, scared, ran away.
One day I got ready in a good position, with paper and pencil, and drew quickly the visitor.
Later, better, already out of bed, I carefully worked out the drawing, trying to maintain the original clumsyness.
At MAC USP, in 1977 I repeated the drawing on an frosted glass for recording. Four shots were taken in search of the difficult adjustment of the frame.
The best frame is in the second shot, where you can see the complete drawing, almost to the tip of the cat's tail. The last two shots have been discarded. The lack of editing capability available at the time, forced the first shot to remain intact even with bad frame ajustment. However, for documentary reasons and a certain collector's fetish, MAC kept in its collection the original tape with the four shots and thus presents it, as well as the MIS São Paulo, Museum of Image and Sound.
In all of them a moan almost scream, somewhat imitating what would be the meow of the cat.
