In 1969, a director of, a Swedish industrial company Nife Accumuladores do Brasil Ltda, visited me as he was interested in a work of art to present to the CEO who was leaving the country. During an afternoon at my studio he separated some paintings and accepted my proposal to spend a few days in the factory where I would make a few pieces at the workshops, with the available material and tools there, and would give one of these pieces, at his choice, as a gift for the Ceo.

The adventure resulted in NIFE 1; NIFE 2; NIFE 3 and NIFE 4. The idea helped develop a few other pieces, – which, ephemeral as they were, they did not stand the test of time. The one that remained was the st h.

The NIFE set was used by Julio Katinsky in an Industrial Design Biennial in Rio de Janeiro. I don´t know how it happened and, from what I remember, Julio Katinsky exhibited photographs, in Rio, and not the pieces themselves. Maybe it was just a lecture, or so.

I know that the appreciation I had for this professor was matched by what can be seen in the dedication of a book in which he participated, which reads "to Gaby whose ideas charm me by their consequence. A hug, Julio R. Katinsky S.P. 12/17/85

The NIFE director who had visited me back then, and made his choice at the time, ended up buying one of the paintings from the Imagens de Urgência (Urgency Images) collection.
